Baliwakenews.com — The Indonesian Hotel General Managers Association (IHGMA) Bali has released ITLS 2026 The Summit Report, a comprehensive publication capturing key insights and recommendations from the fifth International Tourism Leaders Summit (ITLS), held on September 25–26, 2026, at the Bali Sunset Road Convention Center in Kuta.

The report reflects the summit’s central theme, “Cross-Border Perspectives from Tourism Leaders: Balancing Sustainability, Technology, and the Human Experience,” bringing together international perspectives on how the hospitality and tourism industries can navigate technological disruption, intensifying competition, and growing demands for sustainable and regenerative tourism practices.

Led by organizing committee chair I Made Dwijantara, S.E., M.M., ITLS 2026 featured 22 keynote speakers representing different countries, academic disciplines, and professional backgrounds. The summit was attended by hotel general managers who are members of IHGMA Bali, alongside key stakeholders from the hospitality and tourism sectors.

The discussions emphasized the importance of combining global expertise, diverse leadership approaches, and cross-sector collaboration to build a tourism industry that is more resilient, responsible, and responsive to changing global conditions.

A 174-Page Roadmap for Tourism Leadership

Compiled by Ratu Agung Bagus Ngurah Putra, M.Tr.Par, CHE, CHA, who serves as IHGMA Bali’s General Chairman for the 2026–2030 term, ITLS 2026 The Summit Report is a 174-page, full-color, hardbound publication produced by Pustaka Larasan using premium-quality paper.

More than a record of the conference, the publication is intended to serve as an academic reference and a source of inspiration for long-term leadership development across the hospitality and tourism industries.

The English-language book was developed with editorial support from Prof. Dr. I Gede Mudana, M.Si., a lecturer in the Doctoral Program in Tourism Business at Politeknik Negeri Bali.

According to the report’s underlying vision, tourism leaders must be able to respond flexibly and dynamically to changes in the global business environment. Their decisions should deliver value not only to companies and property owners but also to guests, employees, local communities, and the leaders themselves.

Achieving this balance requires businesses to integrate sustainability into their operations while adopting environmentally responsible technologies and maintaining a strong focus on the human experience.

Four Priorities to Shape Tourism’s Future

The summit’s contributors were organized into five thematic panels: the human experience, technological support, responsible investment, medical and wellness tourism, and sustainability practices. Each panel brought together experts offering perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing the global tourism sector.

From these discussions, ITLS 2026 generated 20 recommendations that can be consolidated into four strategic priorities.

The first is to put people and cultural authenticity at the center of tourism development. This includes creating meaningful guest experiences, improving employee well-being, and ensuring local communities actively participate in and benefit from tourism activities.

The second priority is to use artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies to strengthen human capabilities, improve destination intelligence, and increase operational efficiency. The report also stresses the importance of safeguarding data privacy and ensuring the reliability of technological systems.

Third, tourism businesses are encouraged to move beyond conventional sustainability measures toward ecosystem restoration. This approach includes strengthening local supply chains, connecting tourism with sectors such as agriculture, and measuring success through environmental and social well-being rather than business performance alone.

The fourth priority is to build trust, strengthen adaptive leadership, improve crisis preparedness, and expand cross-border partnerships. These efforts are considered essential to developing a tourism ecosystem capable of responding to uncertainty and future disruptions.

Tourism Must Move Beyond Sectoral Boundaries

The report reinforces the idea that tourism cannot thrive through isolated strategies or a narrow focus on the interests of individual businesses. Instead, the industry must collaborate with other sectors to create shared economic, social, and environmental benefits.

A central message featured on the book’s back cover captures this perspective: “The future of tourism is not defined by its status as a leading sector, but rather by its capacity to function as a cross-sectoral field—uniting various other sectors to generate shared prosperity and sustainable impact.”

The statement challenges tourism stakeholders to reconsider traditional, sector-centric approaches and recognize the value of collaboration across industries, communities, and professional disciplines.

Through the publication of ITLS 2026 The Summit Report, IHGMA Bali seeks to preserve the insights generated by the summit and translate them into a lasting reference for tourism professionals and decision-makers.

The report ultimately positions the future of tourism not simply in terms of technological advancement or economic growth, but in the industry’s ability to balance innovation with environmental responsibility, cultural integrity, and human well-being. BWN-07
